What is the Catch-up Premium?

The government is providing funding to cover a one-off universal catch-up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year.

It aims to support pupils to catch up for lost learning so schools can meet the curriculum expectations for the next academic year.

How will Denbigh Primary School be using the Catch-up Premium?

i) Purchase Chromebooks to ensure that  as many pupils as possible are able to access online learning; so that learning can continue in the event of a lockdown.

ii) Increase the hours of our Speech and Language provision through Magic Belt

iii) Training provided for identified support staff members to run additional speech and language tuition.

iv) Provide increased 1:1 and small group support for our most vulnerable pupils

What has been the outcome?

i) All pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 now have access to a chromebook both within the class setting; and to take home in the event of a lockdown. We also have a set of chromebooks for other KS2 pupils to take home in the event of a lockdown or a bubble closure.

ii & iii) Speech and language  programmes and tuition have been very effective in helping our SEND pupils with their understanding of spoken language and using vocabulary.

iv) Targeted support from trained teaching assistants and specialist teachers has enabled targeted pupils to cover basic language and mathematics skills that they had missed during the lockdown and bubble closures.
